Coessens Largillier Les Sens Boises Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut, Champagne, France 2020
Since 2006, Jerome Coessens has crafted Champagne from his family’s prized 2.25-hectare parcel, Largillier, in Ville-sur-Arce (Aube). Planted exclusively to old-vine Pinot Noir on Kimmeridgian limestone and clay, this south-facing slope delivers power, elegance, and precision. Each cuvee—Fruit, Flower, Substance, and Mineral—captures a different facet of the terroir, vinified separately for purity and expression. With minimal oak, Coessens wines shine with clarity of place and vintage.
From a single vineyard called Largillier; from a single varietal : Pinot Noir and from a single vintage. For this wine we use grapes from just one plot: SUBSTANCE.
Both the silky structure and the soft bubbles that caress the palate confirm the first impression on the nose. Complex aromas of citrus confit, mirabelle plums, cinammon and a hint of spice. A full, round finish full of vinosity and with a delicate touch of pepper.
Bold on the attack (thanks to the clay in the KM2 soil); refreshing with marked minerality and a long finish (thanks to the limestone content of the KM2 soil).
A wonderful champagne for food-matching. A magnificent choice throughout any meal, but particularly delicious with strong cheeses such as Epoisse or Munster.
