Domaine Alex Moreau - La Maltroie, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, France 2023

“La Maltroie” 2023 is a beautifully detailed Premier Cru from one of Chassagne’s most complete sites, located just below the Grand Crus and known for combining richness with lift. The wine opens with layered aromas of ripe pear, citrus oil, and white peach, accented by white flowers, crushed stone, and a touch of hazelnut and spice from careful oak élevage. On the palate, it shows impressive breadth and texture, with a generous, almost creamy core of fruit balanced by bright acidity and a firm mineral backbone. The structure is both powerful and precise fleshy up front, then tightening into a long, saline, chalk driven finish that reflects the site’s limestone soils. More open-knit than some of Moreau’s tighter cuvées, yet still built with focus and restraint, this is a compelling Premier Cru that offers early charm while developing added depth and complexity over time.
