Domaine Anne Gros Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Le Grand Maupertui, Cote de Nuits, France 2024
Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru “Le Grand Maupertui” 2024
One of the most compelling wines in the Anne Gros portfolio, this comes from a 0.94-hectare monopole-like parcel in the upper part of Clos de Vougeot, directly beneath Grands-Échezeaux. The vines were originally planted in 1904, with the parcel averaging roughly 70 years old today due to regular replanting. The 2024 vintage is powerful but unusually elegant, showing black cherry, cassis, violet, plum, spice and subtle earthy/meaty notes. The palate is full and velvety, with beautifully fine tannins, strong mineral drive and a very long finish. Jasper Morris rated it 95–97, while Neal Martin gave it 92–94, emphasizing its fruit intensity, depth and pliant tannins. Anne Gros uses native yeast fermentation and 500-liter barrels, with roughly 30–40% new oak, enough to add structure and spice without overwhelming the fruit.
