Échézeaux Grand Cru “Les Loachausses” 2024

This is arguably Anne Gros’s signature Échézeaux, from a 0.76-hectare parcel in Les Loachausses, at the southern end of Échézeaux near Vosne-Romanée. Anne Gros took the parcel back in 2007 after a 25-year lease to Gros Frère et Sœur, making this a particularly personal wine for her.

The 2024 is 100% Pinot Noir, with the domaine's characteristic combination of floral perfume and silky, concentrated fruit. Look for violet, rose, griotte cherry, cassis, blackberry, sweet spice, camphor and chalky minerality. The palate is rich and beautifully diffuse, with very fine tannins, fresh acidity and a remarkably long finish.

The site is particularly interesting: deep brown, stony, clay-rich soils with small marine fossils, giving the wine both concentration and a distinctive mineral character. Anne Gros ferments with native yeasts and ages the wine for about 12 months in 500-liter French oak. Sources differ on the amount of new oak reported for this vintage, with one listing approximately 80%, while the domaine's broader style is generally described as using more restrained new-oak levels.
