Domaine Armand Rousseau Pere et Fils Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits, France 2019
Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru 2019 is a profound and layered expression of Pinot Noir, combining the power of Clos-de-Bèze with the finesse that defines Rousseau’s wines. The nose reveals dark cherry, black raspberry, violets, and exotic spice, intertwined with notes of forest floor, incense, and subtle mineral depth. On the palate it is concentrated yet impeccably balanced, with vibrant acidity, finely structured tannins, and a deep core of red and black fruit that builds in intensity through a long, seamless finish. Elegant, complex, and built for long-term aging, this 2019 Clos-de-Bèze stands among the most compelling Burgundies of the vintage.
"The 2019 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru clearly has more intensity than the Chambertin. True, it is showing a little more wood at the moment, but I also find more fruit - raspberry and wild strawberry - interlaced with shavings of black truffle and forest fern. The palate is medium-bodied with supple but firm tannins. This is endowed with impressive depth and body weight and yet it retains disarming elegance on a finish that fans out gloriously. "This is the business" is the phrase that passed through my mind as I tried to keep a stoic face after encountering this fabulous Clos-de-Bèze." Vinous 97-99
