Domaine Charles Audoin Fixin Le Rozier, Cote de Nuits, France 2023
Fixin “Le Rozier” 2023
A seriously underrated Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir from Cyril Audoin, one of the producers responsible for elevating the reputation of northern Burgundy. Le Rozier comes from vines planted in the 1960s, now around 70 years old, on clay-limestone and marl soils just south of Fixin.
The 2023 is bright, elegant and surprisingly refined, with strawberry, red cherry, black cherry, violet, spice and graphite-like minerality. There’s plenty of structure, but the tannins are fine and the finish is long and stony. Audoin uses about 25% whole cluster, 12 months in barrel with only 20% new oak, followed by six months in tank.
