Domaine des Comtes Lafon Les Porusots, Meursault Premier Cru, France 2021

The Lafon winemaking entity began with roots in Burgundy going back to the late 19th century. Fast forward four generations later, and Domane de Comtes Lafon is by far known as one of the absolute greats of all the Burgundy growers. The current generation is spearheaded by Dominique Lafon, who carries on his family’s voice and values in the pursuit of both quality farming and terroir, eventually acquiring the biodynamic certification. Eventually, Dominique started his own eponymous project in 2008, separate from his family’s. The idea was that he wouldn’t have to keep things so entirely classic; this would give him room to experiment with his name front and center.

Some of the vineyards on this hillside are nearly 70 years old, which by Burgundy’s standards, is quite old for Chardonnay. The high presence of clay in the soil yields a wine intense and textured. This is a wine meant for cellaring for some time.

The 1er Cru Porusots is an east-facing vineyard with deep clay soils. The site produces lavish, layered and deeply structured wines.
