Domaine Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits, France 2023
Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes 2023 is a seriously collectible Burgundy from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s great Grand Cru sites. Dugat-Py is renowned for its extremely old vines, tiny yields, organic/biodynamic viticulture, and intensely terroir-driven wines. This cuvée draws from vines averaging roughly 55–90 years old, with about one-third coming from a Mazoyères-Chambertin parcel.
The 2023 is deep, concentrated, and remarkably refined, showing black cherry, wild raspberry, violet, licorice, exotic spice, earth, and subtle smoke. Fermentation includes 60–70% whole clusters, followed by 16–18 months in barrel with 60–70% new oak. Despite the power, the wine has beautifully polished tannins, freshness, and a long, saline finish. For a collector, this is a long-term cellar Grand Cru. A powerful but increasingly elegant expression of Dugat-Py as the domaine’s style has evolved toward greater balance and finesse.
" The 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a beautiful wine in the making, bursting from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries mingled with orange zest, petals and exotic spices that lend unusual aromatic range to a cuvée that's often defined by purity of fruit. Medium to full-bodied, suave and enveloping, with a succulent core of fruit and sweet structuring tannins, it concludes with a long, fragrant finish." Wine Advocate 94-96
