Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer Les Damodes, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, France 2019
Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer is a Burgundy estate based in Magny-lès-Villers, straddling the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. It evolved from the historic Domaine Jayer-Gilles, founded in the mid 20th century by two Burgundian families and long managed by Gilles Jayer.
In 2017, the domaine was acquired by Swiss entrepreneur André Hoffmann, who brought a renewed focus on sustainability, precision, and site transparency. The estate is now guided in the cellar by winemaker Alexandre Vernet, with a stylistic shift toward more purity, lift, and refined, less-oaked expressions. Today, Hoffmann-Jayer produces wines across village, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru levels, known for a balance of classic Burgundy structure and modern elegance.
Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes 2019 A finely etched, terroir-driven Premier Cru from the northern edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, showing the domaine’s hallmark precision and purity. The 2019 vintage offers lifted aromas of red cherry, raspberry, violet, and subtle spice over a stony mineral core. The palate is medium-bodied and focused, with silky, fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a saline mineral drive. Elegant rather than powerful, it emphasizes finesse, detail, and clarity, with gentle oak and whole-cluster nuance adding lift. The finish is long, precise, and mineral-laced, with lingering red fruit and earthy tones.
