Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Clos des Angles, Volnay Premier Cru, France 2023

Volnay Premier Cru “Clos des Angles” 2023 is a particularly elegant, under-the-radar bottling from one of Volnay’s great domaines. d’Angerville owns 1.07 hectares here, with the parcel sitting lower on the slope than Fremiets. The site has deeper, less rocky soils, contributing to a wine that is naturally more open and delicate than the domaine’s more structured Taillepieds or Champans.  The 2023 shows Morello cherry, raspberry, red berries, violet, mineral and subtle spice, with a supple, finely textured palate, bright acidity and beautifully precise tannins. 

For a collector, this is the more approachable and immediately charming side of d’Angerville, less about brute structure and more about perfume, finesse and transparency of terroir. It should be excellent relatively young while still offering meaningful medium-term aging.
