Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Taillepieds, Volnay Premier Cru, France 2023

Volnay Premier Cru “Taillepieds” 2023 is a benchmark bottling from one of Volnay’s greatest climats and one of the domaine’s most sought-after wines. The estate farms roughly 1.07 hectares of Taillepieds, a steep, rocky site high on the Volnay slope with thin, poor soils of clay and white marl.

The 2023 vintage is beautifully expressive, combining plum, raspberry, dark berries, orange zest, vine smoke, spice and subtle marine/mineral notes. On the palate it is more structured and serious than many Volnays, with firm but refined tannins, bright acidity, impressive density and a long, stony finish. The domaine destems the fruit and uses relatively little new oak, allowing the vineyard character to remain front and center.
