Domaine Matrot Meursault-Blagny Premier Cru, Cote de Beaune, France 2023
Domaine Matrot is a well-established estate based in Meursault, now run by Adèle and Elsa Matrot, representing a new generation continuing their family's winemaking tradition. The domaine is known for producing classic, terroir-driven white Burgundies with a relatively restrained, mineral-focused style.
This elegant white Burgundy hails from the elevated Blagny climat, perched on the border between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, it beautifully marries the rich, rounded texture for which Meursault is famous with the firm, mineral backbone that comes from its cooler, hillside terroir. The 2023 vintage shows lovely aromatic charm, offering notes of fresh citrus, white orchard fruit, and subtle hazelnut, all underpinned by a saline, stony finish. Balanced and refined, it drinks well now but will reward several years of cellaring. Serve lightly chilled alongside roast chicken, creamy fish dishes, or soft cheeses for a truly memorable experience.
