Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru “Clos Saint-Jean” Rouge 2024

This is a rare red Burgundy from a domaine better known for its white wines. Morey-Coffinet’s Clos Saint-Jean is just 0.20 hectares, planted in 1978, on southeast-facing clay-limestone soils. The site has historically been one of Chassagne’s best locations for Pinot Noir, which makes this a particularly interesting cuvée.

The 2024 shows wild strawberry, red cherry, raspberry, violet and dried rose, with hints of white pepper and licorice. The palate is silky and refined, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a subtle limestone-driven mineral finish.

Morey-Coffinet farms organically, hand-harvests, ferments with indigenous yeasts and ages the wine 14–16 months in 228- and 350-liter barrels, with 40-50% new oak. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
