Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru “La Romanée” 2024
La Romanée is one of Thibault Morey’s most compelling white Burgundy bottlings. The domaine farms about 0.81 hectares, with vines planted in 1957, on a southeast-facing slope of clay, limestone and marl. The combination of old vines, low yields and stony limestone soils gives the wine considerably more tension and depth than a typical Chassagne 1er Cru.
The 2024 is 100% Chardonnay, with a restrained, mineral profile: lemon, pear, white peach, citrus blossom, flint, smoke and chalk, followed by a concentrated but beautifully fresh palate with a long, saline finish. Jasper Morris rated it 93–95, calling out its backbone and class; Burghound scored it 92 and emphasized its minerality, power and persistence.
Thibault Morey farms organically and biodynamically, with native-yeast fermentation. The wine is aged 14–16 months in 228- and 350-liter oak barrels, 30–50% new, then bottled unfiltered.
