Domaine Valma Fleurie “Les Labourons” 2024
A very small-production 100% Gamay from a high-altitude, north/west-facing parcel in Fleurie, planted 70% to vines from 1951, on deep, sandy decomposed pink granite. The Mathieus farm organically and use spontaneous semi-carbonic fermentation, followed by élevage in used oak. Only about 4,000 bottles were produced, with the 2024 vintage suffering roughly 80% crop loss.
The style is finesse-driven, floral, bright and savory rather than heavy. Wild strawberry, cherry, flowers, spice and granite minerality, with fine tannins and a fresh, saline finish.
