Among the historical vineyards of Barolo, Bricco delle Viole is the highest and the closest to the Alps. It rises from 400 to 480 meters above sea level, on the Western ridge of the village. Its name, “Hill of Violets”, originates from the flowers that blossom early, thanks to the perfect south exposure. Above the fog, Bricco delle Viole enjoys the earliest sunrise and the last sunset every day. Thanks to this pure light, a dramatic diurnal temperature range and the age of its vines dating back to 1931, 1949 and 1968, Bricco delle Viole generates a profound Barolo of bright aromatics, chiseled tannins and subtle minerality.
2021 Bricco delle Viole is a wine of elegance and breed. The nose is beautifully layered and ethereal, with Nebbiolo peel, violets and crushed flowers, dark red fruits, incense and balsamic tones. The palate is deep and silky with integrated tannins, red fruits, black currant, eucalyptus, and a lingering fruity and mineral core of incredible persistence.
"The 2021 Barolo Bricco Delle Viole is more refined and complete at this tasting, with more depth than the Coste delle Rose, exhibiting notes of raspberry liqueur, pressed flowers, sweet herbs, and fresh earth. A very pure and well-balanced vintage for this wine, it really shines with exceptional detail, offering even tannins and a balanced, seamless structure throughout. It feels as though this wine will offer the broadest window for enjoyment, thanks to its purity and length, which are quite profound. Drink over the coming decades.
