Niepoort Charme Tinto, Douro, Portugal 2024

Niepoort’s Charme 2024 is one of the most compelling and elegant reds in Portugal. A Douro wine made with the soul of Burgundy. From incredibly old vines in the cool, sheltered vineyards of Vale de Mendiz, it delivers wild strawberry, fresh cherry, rhubarb, violet, green tea and mint, wrapped in a silky, mineral palate with vibrant acidity and beautifully refined tannins. There is incredible finesse here without sacrificing depth or length, and the 2024 may ultimately prove to be one of the finest Charme Niepoort has ever produced. Only 12,800 bottles were made. " The 2024 Charme started very closed in the glass. It's one of the first reds to be bottled—only this and the Turris from 2024 were bottled in February 2026—and it feels like a baby with all the puppy fat, peachy and juicy. It took a long time in the glass to open up; I also tasted a bottle that was open the day before, and the wine had not moved much. The giveaway is the elegant, silky and velvety palate, pretty much in line with the 2023. It's floral, herbal, perfumed, elegant, fine-boned and balanced.
