Pierre Girardin Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits, France 2022
Pierre Girardin is one of the most closely watched “new generation” domaines in Burgundy, founded by Pierre-Vincent Girardin in 2017 when he was still in his early 20s. Based in Meursault, he took over a network of carefully selected old-vine parcels across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, working in a highly precise, modern style focused on purity, detail, and vineyard expression. Girardin’s approach combines meticulous organic farming with ultra controlled cellar work whole cluster fermentations, native yeasts, and a distinctive use of custom made barrels, including very fine-grain oak designed to minimize overt wood influence. The wines are typically energetic and lifted, with crystalline fruit, fine structure, and a strong sense of site transparency. Though still young, the domaine has quickly developed a reputation for producing some of the most polished and sought-after new-wave Burgundies, spanning from village wines to grand crus.
Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2022 A structured and finely detailed expression of one of the Côte de Nuits’ most historic grand crus, showing both depth and precision in the hands of Pierre Girardin. The nose opens with black cherry, raspberry, violet, and subtle baking spice, followed by hints of earth, graphite, and crushed stone. On the palate, it is more powerful and architectural than many of the domaine’s other cuvées, with firmer tannic structure, concentrated dark fruit, and a driving mineral core that reflects the grand scale of Clos de Vougeot. The 2022 vintage adds a touch of ripeness and mid palate generosity while maintaining clarity and tension, leading to a long, savory, and persistent finish. A serious, age worthy Grand Cru that balances modern precision with classic vineyard power.
