Ponzi Vineyards Laurelwood District Pinot Noir, Oregon, USA 2023
Laurelwood District Pinot Noir 2023 is a polished, terroir-driven Oregon Pinot Noir that highlights the distinctive Laurelwood soils—ancient windblown loess over basalt—and the high-elevation, windy conditions of the AVA. The 2023 is predominantly estate-grown fruit (83%) and was harvested early after a classic Oregon growing season.
The wine is bright, structured, and savory, with violet, red currant, cassis, bramble, black cherry, white pepper, sagebrush, lavender, and subtle graphite. Native-yeast fermentation and 10 months in French oak (30% new) give it texture and spice without overwhelming the fruit. It is unfiltered and unfined.
"Matured for 10 months in 30% new French oak, the 2023 Pinot Noir Laurelwood District has nuanced aromas of red and black cherries, licorice, saline, holiday spice and earth. The medium-bodied palate boasts expansive, fragrant flavors. It has an elegant frame of velvety tannins and bright acidity and a long finish with a flourish of spicy accents." Wine Advocate 93
