Ponzi Vineyards Reserve Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, USA 2021
Reserve Pinot Noir 2021 is the estate’s flagship Pinot Noir, made exclusively from estate-grown fruit from some of Ponzi’s oldest vines in the Laurelwood District. It’s a more serious, cellar-worthy expression than the regular Laurelwood or Tavola bottlings.
The 2021 is deep, earthy and savory, with cherry, cranberry, blackcap raspberry, lilac, lavender, cigar, miso, clove, cinnamon, black tea and brambly spice. The palate is broad and concentrated but balanced by bright acidity and long, polished tannins. It spent 18 months in French oak, 35% new, followed by additional bottle aging before release.
"The 2021 Pinot Noir Reserve Estate Grown is bursting with cranberry, rhubarb, charcuterie and woodsy undertones. The medium-bodied palate is silky and seamless. Its layered flavors are matched by generous new oak spice, and it has a long, spicy finish." Wine Advocate 93
