Roagna Gallina, Barbaresco DOCG, Italy 2020

Roagna’s Gallina 2020 is a gorgeous, highly refined Barbaresco that shows the more graceful side of Nebbiolo. Wild strawberry, red cherry, rose petal and violet lead into layers of blood orange, mint, licorice, wild herbs and earthy spice, with beautifully polished tannins and vibrant acidity carrying the wine through an exceptionally long finish. Gallina’s sandy, calcareous soils give this Roagna remarkable finesse and silkiness, while the estate’s famously traditional élevage brings extraordinary depth and complexity. A rare, low-production Barbaresco from one of Piedmont’s great traditionalists. Serious enough for the cellar, but seductive enough to drink beautifully.
