A vibrant, small-production Barbera from the Sandri family’s vineyards in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, near Barbaresco. Made from 25–50 year old vines, Baccara is crafted with a hands-off approach that lets the fruit and vineyard shine. Fermented in concrete and wood tanks, with 20 days of maceration, then aged without oak influence, this is Barbera in a beautifully pure, energetic style. Expect juicy red cherry, ripe plum and blackberry, accented by violet, spice and earthy minerality. Bright acidity, supple tannins and a lively, persistent finish make this an irresistible Piedmontese red, serious enough for the table, yet delicious enough to open tonight. A terrific find for anyone who loves characterful Italian wine.
