“Il Guercio” Toscana IGT, is one of Tuscany’s most exciting modern Sangiovese bottlings, created by acclaimed winemaker Sean O’Callaghan. Made from 100% Sangiovese sourced from the high-altitude Mello vineyard in Gaiole in Chianti, this wine captures remarkable freshness, perfume, and energy. Fermented and aged in cement with a long maceration, it delivers vivid cherry, wild strawberry, dried flowers, orange peel, spice, and earthy minerality with silky tannins and vibrant lift. The outstanding 2021 vintage gives it extra depth and precision. A brilliant hand-sell for lovers of pure, elegant, terroir-driven Tuscan reds.

"Named after a Tuscan word for "one-eyed rascal," the Tenuta di Carleone 2021 Il Guercio is all Sangiovese with up to 40% whole cluster and as a much as five months of extended maceration in cement vats only. The wine delivers a very clear and variety-faithful expression with bright plum, wild cherry and iris root. You can taste the artisanal approach of this pretty wine. There are dusty limestone sensations that add to a cooling finish. Fruit comes from high-elevation vineyards at 650 meters in elevation in Lamole. Production is 16,000 bottles, and I'm pleased to recommend this very special wine." Wine Advocate 95+

The first sniff doesn't just hit you; it transports you. It’s a punch of sour cherry and wild raspberry, but right behind it is the real magic is dried Mediterranean herbs, iris root, a faint puff of smoke, and an metallic, iron-like undertone. It smells like a damp Tuscan forest floor after a hard rain(a good thing).
​On the palate, it is pure electricity. Thanks to that high altitude, the acidity hits like a lightning bolt, carrying layers of bright plum and a dusty, limestone minerality. It’s elegant, sure, but it’s got teeth. The tannins are fine, silky, and persistent, leaving a cooling, long-as-hell finish that screams for food.
​This isn't a wine for a stuffy, white-tablecloth restaurant where people whisper over small plates. This is a wine for a loud, sweat-soaked kitchen. You want this with a bowl of thick pici pasta tossed with wild boar ragù, coarse pork sausage snapped right off the grill, or a massive, blood-rare Bistecca alla Fiorentina eaten with your hands.
​It is honest. It is beautiful. It is completely, unapologetically alive.
