Thomas Farge Saint-Joseph 'Cote du Pouly', Rhone, France 2020
The Farge name is well established in the Northern Rhone, with Thomas Farge’s family farming and making wine in Saint-Joseph for four generations. After spending a decade in South America, Thomas returned home in 2018 to launch his own domaine, bringing with him a broad range of experience and fresh perspective. He works organically and biodynamically, following the lunar calendar, blending traditional Rhone practices with modern, thoughtful innovation. Along the way, he drew inspiration from time spent working with respected producers such as Jean-Louis Chave and Stéphane Usseglio, and has since secured exceptional parcels across the Rhone, including prized terroirs like the famed Reynard site.
Saint-Joseph Cote du Pouly 2020 is a focused, terroir-driven Northern Rhone Syrah from steep, granitic slopes farmed organically. The wine shows expressive aromas of blackberry, black cherry, violet, and cracked pepper, layered with subtle smoky and mineral notes. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, combining ripe dark fruit with savory spice, fresh acidity, and finely textured tannins that give both elegance and structure. The balanced 2020 vintage brings depth without heaviness, making this Saint-Joseph approachable now with a decant yet capable of aging gracefully over the next several years.
