Tregole Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, Tuscany, Italy 2022
Tregole is a tiny 5 hectare estate in the village of Castellina in Chianti Classico. Proprietor and winemaker Sophie Conte runs the small family property. A first generation winemaker, Sophie was not interested in wine until 15 years ago when she fell in love with Sangiovese. Sophie’s parents purchased the historic Tregole estate as a vacation home in 1998 and leased the vineyards to neighboring producers for years until 2015 when Sophie decided to found Tregole and begin her journey as winemaker of the property.
All three Chianti Classico bottlings — Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, and Chianti Classico Gran Selezione are from her vineyards surrounding the estate, mostly from old vines of 20 – 50 years old and all are 100% Sangiovese. Tregole is a perfect example of what is most exciting in the region of Chianti Classico at this moment in time — a resurgence of young, energized winemakers.
Bright red and black cherry, tomato consome, juniper, licorice, leather, and roasted herbal undertones. Bright yet savory with saline and a sanguine finish.
