Trinchero Bricco del Noce, Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG, Italy 2020

A beautifully traditional Barbera from the Trinchero family, who have been making wine in Agliano Terme since the 1920s. Known for championing Barbera’s potential for complexity and longevity, the family farms organically and favors minimal intervention in the cellar. The 2020 Bricco del Noce delivers ripe black cherry and dark plum, layered with licorice, cocoa, leather and balsamic spice. Spontaneously fermented with an extended 30-day maceration and aged in cement and large Slavonian oak casks, it balances generous, concentrated fruit with Barbera’s signature vibrant acidity and a long, savory finish. A soulful, old-school Piedmontese red that offers serious character and an excellent alternative to the region’s more familiar Nebbiolo wines.
