Vietti 'Vigna Scarrone' Barbera d'Alba, Piedmont, Italy 2023

Vietti’s Vigna Scarrone is one of Piedmont’s benchmark single-vineyard Barberas, coming from the Scarrone cru in Castiglione Falletto, one of the great villages of Barolo. It is 100% Barbera, from a south/southeast-facing site, and is made with the same level of seriousness Vietti brings to its Barolos. The wine spends about 18 months in large oak and barriques after fermentation and maceration. The 2023 is a rich, structured and beautifully balanced Barbera, combining the variety’s naturally vibrant acidity with ripe black and red cherry fruit, violet, spice and subtle vanilla. There is considerably more depth and tannic structure here than in everyday Barbera.
